Pastor search Team

Prayer & Fasting Guide

Praying for Direction as We Form a Pastor Search Team

As our church seeks the Lord’s will in selecting those who will serve on the Pastor Search Team, we commit ourselves to prayer. Use the Scriptures and prompts below to guide your intercession.

Praying for God’s Direction

Jeremiah 33:3 — Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know.

  • Pray that God will clearly reveal the individuals He is calling to serve in this important role.
  • Ask the Lord to show us qualities and people we may not naturally think of but whom He has prepared.
  • Seek God’s insight so that our choices reflect His wisdom rather than our assumptions.

James 1:5 — Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God—who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly—and it will be given to him.

  • Ask God to give our church the wisdom we need to identify men and women of spiritual maturity and unity.
  • Pray that our decisions will be guided by the Spirit rather than personal opinion or convenience.
  • Request confidence and clarity as we seek God’s generous, unfailing guidance.

Waiting on God’s Direction

Psalm 25:4–5 — Make your ways known to me, Lord; teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; I wait for you all day long.

  • Pray for patience as we wait on God to make His choices clear.
  • Ask the Lord to show us not only who should serve, but also who should not.
  • Pray for hearts that remain teachable as we seek His leading.

Jeremiah 10:23 — I know, Lord, that a person’s way of life is not his own; no one who walks determines his own steps.

  • Pray for deep dependence on God as He guides every step of this process.
  • Ask the Lord to redirect us away from plans formed by habit or pressure.
  • Pray for a willing spirit to follow God’s direction, even when it challenges our expectations.

Trusting in God’s Direction

Psalm 37:23–24 — A person’s steps are established by the Lord, and he takes pleasure in his way. Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the Lord supports him with his hand.

  • Pray for assurance that God is establishing this process and preparing the right individuals to serve.
  • Ask God to steady our church if differences of opinion arise.
  • Pray that we will trust His sustaining hand from beginning to end.

Proverbs 3:5–6 — Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.

  • Pray that we will trust the Lord wholeheartedly instead of relying on preference or tradition.
  • Ask God to unify our church as we acknowledge His leadership in every decision.
  • Pray for a clear and straight path as God gives shared conviction about the ones He is calling.

John 16:13 — When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come.

  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us in understanding the needs of our church in this season.
  • Ask for discernment to recognize those He is prompting us to consider.
  • Pray for insight into the future so that those selected will lead wisely through what lies ahead.

A Closing Encouragement

As we seek the Lord together, we do so with confidence that He is faithful to guide His people. The same God who has shepherded this church through every season will direct us now. Let us pray boldly, trust deeply, and move forward knowing that God delights to lead a church that seeks Him first.
